PTE Describe Image Exercise 8

Show Model Answer

The pie chart illustrates the breakdown of household energy consumption by category in an average UK home. The most striking feature is that space heating accounts for the largest share at 42%, making it by far the dominant energy use. Water heating is the second largest category, representing 23% of total consumption. Appliances and electronics collectively account for 18%, while lighting consumes 10%. The remaining 7% is divided between cooking and other miscellaneous uses. It is clear from the chart that heating alone — combining space and water — represents nearly two-thirds of all household energy use. This suggests that improving insulation and upgrading heating systems would have the greatest impact on reducing residential energy consumption and associated carbon emissions.
