PTE Describe Image Exercise 9

Show Model Answer

The line graph shows changes in the percentage of people using three modes of transport — private car, public bus, and bicycle — in a European city between 2000 and 2020. The overall trend shows a decline in car use, a significant rise in cycling, and a relatively stable share for bus travel. In 2000, private car use dominated at approximately 70%, but this fell steadily to around 48% by 2020 as traffic congestion and fuel costs increased. Bicycle use, by contrast, rose sharply from just 5% in 2000 to nearly 28% in 2020, driven by government investment in cycling infrastructure. Bus usage remained relatively constant, fluctuating between 22% and 27% throughout the period. In conclusion, the city has seen a clear modal shift away from private vehicles towards more sustainable forms of transport.
