PTE Describe Image Exercise 10

Show Model Answer

The combined chart presents data on global smartphone sales volume shown as bars, and the corresponding average selling price shown as a line, from 2015 to 2022. Two contrasting trends are immediately apparent. Sales volume, represented by the bars, rose consistently from approximately 1.4 billion units in 2015 to a peak of around 1.9 billion units in 2021, before declining slightly in 2022. The average selling price, however, followed the opposite trajectory — beginning at roughly 300 US dollars in 2015 and climbing steeply to over 450 dollars by 2022. This suggests that while overall unit sales have plateaued, consumers are increasingly purchasing higher-priced, premium devices. In conclusion, the smartphone market appears to be transitioning from a volume-driven growth phase to a value-driven one, with revenue maintained through premium pricing rather than expanded sales.
